Futures Ready Leadership

Futures Ready Leadership

Leadership Development

We design and facilitate leadership development programs that empower your people to shape the future and not just react to it. Our approach is inspired by Hermann Minkowski’s cone of possibilities: a powerful metaphor that reveals how every present moment opens a set of future pathways and how intentional choices give you more agency to act with confidence.

We use this metaphor as a practical lens to explore future possibilities, align around a shared vision, and translate strategy into action. From co-creating a clear and compelling strategic direction to developing the skills your leaders need to bring that future to life, we help your organization move from possibility to capability.

Developing the capabilities to lead the future

In a world of constant change, organizations need strategies that don’t just describe the future, but can adapt as it unfolds. A plan is just a starting point. The real difference is made by the people who bring it to life.

For strategy to work in practice, your people need to understand what it means, why it matters, and how it connects to their daily work. When leaders and teams can translate future ambitions into everyday decisions and behaviors, change gains momentum across all layers of the organization and your strategy becomes lived, not just written.

We help teams build the practical skills to navigate change and actively shape what comes next. Using our Practices for Futures Readiness, we design experiential learning journeys that strengthen capability, confidence, and alignment so your organization is ready for the future, whatever form it takes.

What’s in it for you

Your plans executed and higher productivity due to people who understand and embrace the strategy.

Higher satisfaction due to people who see and feel how their role contributes.

Improved feeling of empowerment due to leaders who know how to guide their teams through challenges.

Greater ability to cope with (unexpected) changes.

Seven practices for Futures Readiness

Based on years of working on the future with organizations worldwide and hundreds of conversations with experts, scientists, leaders and teams, there are 7 practices that will allow you to be ready for any possible future. We will train your leaders how to apply these practices effectively so they can create the future with their teams. The 7 practices are the backbone of how we design our programs.

Impact

What drives and stimulates people to change their day-to-day routines to new ways of working and being? This practice helps you to bring all actions and interventions in line with the purpose of your team or organization and it helps your team to be activated on their intrinsic motivations for change. Most often it is this purpose driven approach that proves to be most successful for transformation as it answers the most fundamental question of all: why do we do the things we do? This answer keeps engagement high and drives perserverance in times of change.

Design

It is often said that the best way to predict the future is to create it. But how can you discover what people might do in the future and how they might react to challenges that haven’t presented themselves yet? That is where speculative design comes in. Speculative design uses the same principles as design thinking, but it starts from some time horizon in the future. By speculating what might happen and prompting artifacts from the future to people today, you gain a better understanding of potential future reactions to changes.

Learning

Continuous learning is a foundational practice for every futures ready leader. The future can never be predicted and this means that you have to train yourself to always be exploring new things. In order to do this effectively having a growth mindset and fostering your own curiosity is essential. Unlearning old behaviors and getting yourself out of your comfort zone into a learning zone works best if you apply an experiential approach to your personal learning journey. This requires active feedback, retrospective evaluation and continuous reflection on what you experience.

Strategy

If the future can’t be predicted, then why plan for it? This practice turns strategic thinking into an everyday activity and trains you how to involve your entire team and organization into making strategy and executing it. Strategy is all about making choices and decisions. In a volatile environment this means that you have to challenge yourself to first see more options, before choosing one. Involving your team in this process empowers everyone to make a strategic decision at the moment it matters most and will make your team more effective in its execution power.

Culture

Culture emerges from the interactions between people in an organization. Being ready for changes that might come your way in the near future, requires you to be adaptive with the way that you collaborate together. In other words: your working culture should transform in reaction to external shifts. Trust, honesty, commitment and accountability are crucial to be successful as a team in volatile environments. This practice originates from this basic understanding and will help you to build the right environment for your team to become adaptable to change and effective in execution.

Systems

Every organization is a complex system. And every team is as well. To withstand external shocks and anticipate changes flexibly it is essential to be able to understand this and find the right levels of intervention to change behaviors. By making small (behavioral) changes in a system and creating feedback-loops your organization and team can evolve to be ready for future events. This systematic way of thinking is unique in our futures ready approach and lets you see that the most impactful changes emerge bottom-up.

Change

What will happen in the near future is uncertain. Nobody can predict where we will end up and more than ever before we are living in a world that is extremely volatile. Change seems to be the only constant we can still rely on. Being able to navigate this uncertainty and the changes it brings, is crucial to be successful in the future. This is not just about what might happen, but more importantly this is about how people will react to the changes that are emerging.
